CONCLUSION ET PERSPECTIVES
Cette étude, menée dans le département de
l'atacora, nous a permis d'identifier 61 LFT regroupés en 44 genres et
29 familles. Ces résultats montrent que cette région de
l'extrême NordOuest regorge d'une importante richesse en LFT. Parmi les
espèces consommées, on distingue 21 espèces
cultivées et 40 sauvages qui sont prélevées dans les
jardins de case, les jachères ou champs abandonnés et aussi dans
les formations végétales (forêts et savanes).
Les principaux LFT varient d'un groupe ethnique à un
autre. Les critères de sélection sont : le goût, la
disponibilité et la rapidité de cuisson. Ces LF identifiés
dans le département de l'Atakora sont A. digitata, A.
hybridus, C. pentandra, C. sesamoides, C.
olitorius, H. sabdariffa, S. radiatum, A. iluginosa,
S. macrocarpum et V. doniana. Beaucoup de LFT possède
également des propriétés médicinales.
Les femmes sont au centre des activités liées
aux LFT. Elles interviennent dans la production, la commercialisation et la
consommation. De plus en plus, les femmes surtout M'bermin et Wama forment de
petits groupes pour cultiver ou domestiquer certains LF connus pour leurs
valeurs nutritives ou médicinales. C'est le cas par exemple d'A.
uliginosa. Elles constituent ainsi des partenaires cibles dans la
réalisation des programmes liés aux LFT.
Les études ultérieures permettront
d'étendre les investigations dans tout le pays afin de constituer un
catalogue de LFT consommés au Bénin. Elles seront l'occasion
d'identifier les principaux LF sur le plan national et, déterminer leurs
rôles alimentaires et médicinaux par des analyses biochimiques.
Ces travaux pourront permettre de développer des techniques de
cueillette, de stockage et de cuisson qui préservent la diversité
et les valeurs nutritives des LF.
Aussi, est-il important que les programmes de conservation des
ressources phytogénétiques s'intéressent à la
conservation ex situ et in situ des LFT notamment les LF de
cueillette, importants pour la sécurité alimentaire en zones
rurales et urbaines. Il est nécessaire d'encourager les femmes dans la
domestication et motiver les groupements féminins.
L'incitation des organisations non-gouvernementales (ONG)
intervenant dans le domaine à s'implanter dans ces zones peut contribuer
à la sensibilisation des populations sur l'importance des valeurs
nutritives des LFT, et promouvoir ainsi, leur consommation.
