1.2.1.2. Espace du Mayumbe

L'estimation de la superficie forestière exploitable du Mayumbe est dynamique. Dans les années 1950, elle était estimée à 500000 hectares. L'inventaire fait par SPIAF (1981) n'estima que 100000 hectares soient disponibles. Aujourd'hui suite à la surexploitation, le chiffre a baissé vers 80000 hectares. Partant de sa composition, ce bloc présente une grande richesse en essences de grande valeur commerciale telles que Entandrophragma cylindricum, Entandrophragma candollei, Entandrophragma utile, Khayasp, Milicia excelsa...., etc (FAQ, 2005).
