Résumé en anglais
Abstract : This study carried out within the
framework of a Master's thesis attempts to apprehend the animal as a character
in Nicostratos by Eric Boisset. This research consists of three
chapters. The first one, titled «State of the Art : Introduction
to Animal Studies in Literature», acts as a synthesis of our
bibliographical research and deals with the animal as a character in literature
as well as the studies of which it is the object. The second one, titled
«Interspecies Dynamics of the Human-Animal
Relationship», analyzes the main characters' relationships using
Philippe Hamon's semiotic approach. The last one, titled «The
Animal from Reality to the Sacred : Zoopoetics of the Pelican»,
uses a few concepts of zoocriticism from the first chapter, as well as
geocriticism and the symbolic approach, in order to detect the functions of our
animal character in the story. This analysis allows us, inter alia, to deepen
our understanding of animal representation in literature and of its
relationships with humans.
