CONCLUSION

Au cours de notre travail, nous avons étudié les démences dans notre milieu, particulièrement dans les hospices des vieillards, où les différences culturelles et l'illettrisme sont importants. Cette étude avait pour objectif de déterminer la prévalence des démences et d'en étudier les facteurs de risque.

Les premiers travaux effectués en population générale en Afrique de l'Ouest montraient des fréquences faibles de la démence sénile. Mais dans notre milieu, nos résultats indiquent une situation différente avec une prévalence beaucoup plus élevée. Aussi, certains facteur étudiés, tel que : les antécédents d'Alcoolisme, d'HTA, le déménagement en hospice et le changement de statut financier sont associés aux démences, reflétant ainsi l'origine multifactorielle de ces affections neurodégénératives.

Il est donc clair que la démence sénile est un problème de santé publique, et des études plus poussé en population générale pourraient permettre l'élargissement des connaissances sur l'épidémiologie des démences dans notre milieu.
