ABSTRACT
The current study dealt with the typology of dense forests in
the outskirts of Kisangani. It consisted to enlighten the vegetal communities
of the higher canopy strata of these forests and to partition the flora
variance between the environmental parameters and the spatial ones.
The phytosociological multistrata plotting method (Synusial
plots) has been used to survey the trees in the field. In total, 23 samples
split into two imbedded sub samples has been collected in Yoko and Biaro
forests, distant each other of about 10 km. The higher arborescent canopy
stratum (A) has been surveyed on surface of 200 m x 50 m (that is 1 hectare)
for a plot and the lower arborescent canopy stratum (Ad) on a surface of 200 m
x 10 m (That is 0.2 hectare) for a plot.
At the end of this study, 6987 individuals has been censused.
After their identification, 249 species belonging to 41 families have globally
been recorded.
After ordination analysis by means of CANOCO software and
classification analysis using PAST software, two types of forests has been
characterized: The forest grown on sandy soil and that established on clay
substrate.
Scorodophloeus zenkeri and Julbernardia seretii
species feature the forest on sandy soil at the stratum A level and
Anonidium mannii and Cola griseiflora at stratum Ad level;
whilst Petersianthus macrocarpus and Pericopsis elata feature
the forests on clay soil at stratum A level and Aidia micrantha and
Strombosia pustulata at the level of Ad stratum.
The species diversity does not show a significant difference
between the two types of forest though seems to increase as the canopy height
decreases.
The heterogeneity determinism of different groups is dictated in
general by the texture of the soil, its hydromorphy and topography.
Key words: Typology, dense forests, synusial
