ABSTRACTThis dissertation is on the feeling of having a stagnant career, experienced by workers of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL). The main preoccupation was to find out the workers' perception as regards their career development. Considering all the theoretical approaches related to stagnant careers, this study is based on two questions: How do CAMTEL's workers perceive the situation of a stagnating career? What is their attitude as regards this situation? To endeavour to answer these questions, a general hypothesis was stated: The stagnant career of workers is a sign of the boss' ignorance, of their contribution to the company's success. After some interviews with forty workers of this company, results showed that the feeling of a stagnant career is as a result of the failure of the company to meet up with the aspirations of the workers. Consequently, this situation is therefore due to the inconsideration of the workers' contribution to the full success of the company. Also, this study showed that the feeling of a stagnant career is based on age, gender, professional status and the seniority of the employee. Moreover, it gives rise to poor implication of workers at work, and, at the other hand, a fancy for some other activities. These results confirm the importance in the study of the feeling of a stagnant career which could turn out useful at both the strategic and operational levels.
